The Leap Overseas Ltd

Sports Leap is our most specialized category of programs. These trips run for between 25 days and 10 weeks and allow you to make sports the focus of your gap experience. You don’t need any previous experience, although a good level of fitness and, if you choose our Polo placement, competent riding skills, are a must.

We offer Sports Leaps in 3 continents with activities as wide ranging as Paragliding in South Africa and trekking in the Himalayas. These placements ideally suit adrenaline junkies and fitness fanatic’s aged 18-27, looking for a fun, physical challenge in an exotic environment. Experience new cultures, acquire and develop your skills and make friends for life on a Sports Leap.

We try to select sports and destinations that are just a little bit different – definitely not run of the mill:

Kenya – Adrenalin – Combine adventure, sport and challenge in this unique 25 day itinerary that includes bike riding, hiking, rock climbing, camping, a camel trek, a safari, climbing Mount Kenya and white-water rafting, before heading to the coast for a rest or more exercise in the form of swimming, sailing, canoeing, kite surfing, diving, snorkeling or deep sea fishing.

Argentina – Polo – Learn to play polo at an amazing estancia close to Buenos Aires. Spend mornings working with gauchos with general stable work and exercising polo ponies, whilst learning stick and balling, “baby chukkas” and playing in matches. No polo experience necessary but must be able to ride. Also offers a chance to learn Spanish.

South Africa – Horse Riding – Based at Horizon Lodge in Waterberg Mountains work with horses and ride out in the spectacular wilderness on a daily basis. Includes feeding, exercising and schooling the horses, back up safari guiding, helping in local community school and planting trees to prevent soil erosion. A stunning location with an abundance of game.

South Africa – SkySchool – Learn how to Paraglide, Parajet and Kite-surf at SkySchool in Wilderness, South Africa on two, three or four week intensive courses.

India – Trekking – Help in a luxury trekking camp in the Himalayas whilst completing local community and conservation projects. The placement includes escorting guests on mountain treks; fishing in might rivers, riding, tiger safaris as well as helping develop local fresh water systems and building community medical facilities.

Some placements, remaining true to our philosophy, incorporate elements of our 3 Leaps: eco-lodge, conservation and community. For example in South Africa on our horse riding placements you will ride amongst the wild game whilst helping in the safari lodge and on local community projects. All placements employ local people on the ground, therefore helping the local economy.
