Diving means being part of a world many dream of - and being paid to be there. The recreational dive industry continues to grow thanks to the huge interest in the marine world. The growth of eco-tourism also means many of the locations involved are quite simply the best the world has to offer. Lord Howe Island and the Great Barrier Reef, for example, are both regular locations for our graduates in their first jobs as dive professionals.
An eight week course can take you from your first qualification to divemaster level, which is a good foundation for a career in the industry. As a divemaster you would be managing dives for a school and working closely with their instructors while you build your own experience underwater.
At Flying Fish you spend the first part of your gap year getting qualified and the remainder being paid to teach your favourite sport - train, then travel and work around the globe.
Course content
The Divemaster Essentials programme is our 'no frills' course. It covers the basic essentials that you need to qualify but excludes the extras you get on our full Divemaster Traineeship: PADI specialities, live aboard and work experience. Great value for money, the Essentials course gives you more free time and the perfect opportunity to enjoy Sydney.
Divemaster Essentials takes you from absolute beginner right up to PADI Divemaster, the basic qualification for professional work in the recreational dive industry. If you are already qualified as an entry-level diver at the beginning of the programme, we give you the choice of logging some extra dives or recapping your PADI Open Water Diver course.
As a Divemaster you will be a fully trained scuba diver, with the skills and knowledge needed to lead certified divers in open water and to assist an instructor both in the pool and in open water sessions.
If you are thinking about a career as a PADI professional, this is the first step on the career ladder. Dealing with clients in a working environment will help you determine whether this is the life for you.
While training with Flying Fish you will stay in comfortable self-catering accommodation in Manly, with direct access to one of Sydney's most famous surf beaches. Manly's outdoor lifestyle is captivating and the cosmopolitan restaurants and bars offer remarkably good value to visitors from Europe and America. Sydneysiders enjoy non-stop entertainment, fantastic shopping and great restaurants, as well as sporting facilities that are the envy of the world.
Once qualified, take advantage of the Flying Fish careers advice and job placement service to find dive jobs worldwide.
